Just the two of us...for a weekend!

So, as a first time mom, I have been totally attached to my little cutie pie. I have an awesome husband, who has been totally understanding for the last year and a half. So after our Sea World trip in March, I came home and told Matt that I was ok to go somewhere for the weekend, just the two of us. It wasn't 5 minutes and he was on the phone lining up babysitting! Do you think someone was a little excited for some alone time with the wife? We talked about where to go and I suggested somewhere we wouldn't normally go, but that was within driving distance-I like road trips. We decided on the Grand Canyon. It was BEAUTIFUL!We left Brawley at about
5:45-after I got off work on Friday. We drove through Needles, CA and then Kingman, AZ. We got into our hotel parking lot (which was about 5 miles from the entrance to the park) at midnight. It had snowed the day before, but ended up warming up before the sun went down so a lot had melted off.We had a helicopter tour over the canyon scheduled at 11. We headed downstairs and had some breakfast after sleeping in and then decided to head over the the airport. A helicopter tour is the ONLY way to see the Grand Canyon. It was awesome!
We got to sit in the front-A-maaaaa-zing! Here are some pictures of what we saw:

Approaching the rim of the canyon.

The North Rim.
View of the fault line that runs through the bottom of the canyon (I did not know about this until the helicopter ride!) The rocks and sediment have turned vertically along the fault line.

The North Rim up close.
An area on the North Rim that began as a controlled burn but jumped the fire lines.
Another area on the North Rim...very different from the South Rim. It's about 1.000 feet higher in elevation.
After the tour by air, we headed over the the South Rim and walked the rim for awhile. We had lunch and then headed down Bright Angel Trial.
Some of the beautiful colors of the canyon. There were huge icicles hanging overhead as we walked down the trail. On the right of the picture-you can see two people walking-they just came through the first tunnel on the trail..

There were quite a few people headed back up the trail by the time we got there.
Matt really didn't want his picture taken.
The two of us!
We headed about 25 miles to the east to the old watchtower. It was getting late, and cold, but it was still really neat!
The Canyon at sunset.

The Grand Canyon was so pretty. These pictures really do not do it justice!

We both had such a great time and were so lucky to have our mom's watch him. Don't worry-Graedy had a great weekend too. He and his Gram (Matt's mom) and his Pops (Matt's dad) went up to Palm Desert to The Living Desert. It is a really cool zoo in the foothills.

Happy Easter!

We just got back from the Grand Canyon at about 3:30 this afternoon and Matt was headed up to Alpine for the night before continuing on to Magic Mountain with his family on Sunday (I am not going because I can not handle those sorts of rides!). I wanted to have a little Easter egg hunt for Graedy before he left so we fixed cheeseburgers and had his brother Jeff, my mom and dad, and my brother Russell over for dinner and some egg hunting. It was so much fun!

I'm ready to find some eggs!

A short break for some nectar from the honeysuckle before moving on to the rest of the eggs.

Finding eggs among the pansies.

He was determined to pick up both of these eggs at the same time. He finally gave in and put one in his basket and then picked up the other.

Hmmm...which way should I go next?

I got ya!

As Graedy picked this up we all said, Graedy, it's not an egg, that's not an egg! Like we needed to tell him. He knows exactly what it is...

And...it's time for a basketball break!

One of several eggs with strawberries inside! We are so lucky to have a little one who loves fruit!

Yummy, yummy crunchies!

One of Graedy's favorite snacks-fruit twist!

Cute little dimple

Happy baby!

I know that it is a bit difficult to see in this picture, but Graedy is chewing a jelly bean from the only egg with candy!

Taking Grandpa to find some more eggs...

Hope you have a great Easter, filled with family and fun!
